It’s also an adult thing. Here’s how to embrace it!

We too often think of crying as a “baby thing.” When adults cry by fully expressing themselves, they explain it as “I cried like a baby.” Saying this makes the act of crying a childish thing, something that only children do, but it is not something that only children do, adults do it too but they don’t accept it confidently.

One of the most important things we need to understand about crying is that it is a natural, normal, and healthy part of being human. No matter at what age we cry, there’s no shame in it. Associating it with babies undermines its value and results in shattering our confidence when we engage with it as adults.

Remember that if you cry it means you are strong enough to express your emotions. Tears do not make you look weak, hiding your tears makes you look weak. Because when you hide, it shows you have a fear of being judged by people. This limits your ability to be authentic with what you feel.

The next time you feel like crying, remind yourself that crying is bravery and you are not a coward, your tears have value and do not make you any less precious than when you smile. Cry, cry with your whole heart, let your soul shine through your tears because they matter and so you matter.
