In our lives, we often face difficult times and especially when we love someone then we often face great troubles and many of us lost love when it comes to saving it and when it comes to keeping it alive. So there’s a story about two great lovers and their great inspiring act. The story is written by Sydney Porter and it’s about two lovers who were very great towards each other. They were caring and deeply loving for each other but there was a problem, they were also living very poor lives. And because they were poor so they were unable to buy things or presents for each other. But when Christmas came they experienced great trouble because they were thinking about gifts to give each other. The name of the girl was Della, her most precious property was her hairs, her hairs were extraordinarily beautiful. So she thought if she can sell her hair then she can buy a brilliant gift for her lover “Jim”. Della’s hair was Jim’s favourite. So when Jim was not at home, she decided to go out to the market to sell her hair so then she can buy a gift for Jim.
So Della came to a barber’s shop where she sold her hair for the money. And then she brought a beautiful chain for Jim’s watch. And with the chain, she came home and then she was waiting for Jim. On the other side, Jim’s most precious thing was his watch and it was Della’s favourite. So he decided to sell his watch so then he can buy a gift for her lover Della. So he sold his watch and with the money, he came into where he saw a very shiny and beautiful hairbrush, he thought a hairbrush would be perfect as a gift for Della’s beautiful hair. So he bought it and he was on the way towards home. At the home, Della was waiting for Jim. So Jim came to the home, and Della was looking anxious. When he looked at her he was surprised. Della was without her hair. She was looking like a school-boy with little hair on her head.
She said Jim don’t worry my hair will grow very soon. I have sold them to buy a gift for you. And then she showed the watch chain to Jim, she said Jim this chain will look very beautiful on your watch. Jim said Della nothing like a haircut can decrease my love for you. But I want you to understand me. And then Jim picked the hairbrush for Della from his pocket and said, Della, I have sold my watch to buy this brush for you. But our gifts are of no use to us. At this moment Jim and Della’s eyes were filled with tears. And in another moment they hugged each other with the joy of tears.
They both sacrificed their most precious things to save their love because for them their love was most important than any other thing. Each lost their unique thing to buy a gift for the other. But they didn’t lose their love. They were absolutely great lovers and what we can learn from them is if we love someone very deeply if we want to see someone truly happy then we should not be afraid to lose our great things to keep the love alive because everything comes at a cost.
